Jelly Roll Morton

    This ragtime artist was born in 1890 and was originally named Joeseph Ferdinand La Mothe. He grew up in New Orleans. Lo Mothe got his nack name Jelly Roll Morton because he didn't want to be called frenchy so he took his fathers name, which was morton and put jelly roll in front of it beacuse back in his day jelly roll meant you were a ladies man. Morton only played the piano but also composed in directed musical pieces. Throughout Mortons musical career he traveled throughout the country however he died in los angeles, He was in his 50's.​​

Louis Armstrong

    louis Armstrong was the first sucessfull jazz solo artist of the 1920's. He was born and raised in ​New Orleans which influenced his music greatly. Although Armstrong was a very sucessfulltrumpet soloist he was also known for "scat" singing. This style of singing is when an artist uses random phrases or uses sounds and syllables instead of singing actual words. Armstrong had a great carrer and was and still is recognized as a king of jazz. Armstrong died in Queens New York during the year of 1971.

Duke Ellington

    Duke Ellington was born in Washington D.C where he was origanlly named Edward Kennnedy Ellington.The Duke was known for conducting big bands however he was a succesfull pianist and singer. Throughout Ellingtons career he composed over one thousand musical pieces. He had reviced his nickname "Duke" because he was known for dressing very classy and always looked like a young nable man, hense the nickname The Duke. The Duke passed away during the year of 1974.

Jack Teagarden

    Jack Teagarden was born in 1905 and was raised in texas where he learned to play the trombone at a young age. Teagarden is considerd one of the most talented and creative trombone players of all time. He was a innovater when it came to special effects and alternative positions on the instrument. In 1927 Teagarden began traveling the Nation in various differnt bands. Although he was known for his instrumental influence on the jazz scene he was a very good vocalist. He even recrded with Louis Armstrong, the album was called "Jack-Armstrong Blues". Jack Teadgarden died in 1964 at age 58.
